Kancho’s Dream

Already for a long time Kancho is planning to build a new huge Honbu. Some people say his plans arc impossible to carry out, but others reply they will take a lot of time, but we cannot only think of the Karateka of this generation, we should look forward. If we do not proceed with the plans now, they will be delayed and delayed...

Kancho wants to perpetuate. Kyokushin by building this great conception. He does not care so much for personal fortune, he wants to give everything to Kyokushin. So, before retiring (what does he mean by that?) he wants to have the new Honbu built.

As Tokyo is one of the biggest cities in the world, it is also a city where “space" to build a house is amazingly expensive. Then we are talking about the space only, you must know that Kancho has really grandiose plans. He has a building in mind which counts several floors, and where in future the Tournaments could be held. He wants it as the Kodokan. And as it is necessary to have it centrally located in Tokyo - Kancho prefers the area of Ikebukuro and Mejiro - this means it will cost an immense amount of money.

These new headquarters will provide facilities for training which will guarantee the continued growth of Kyokushin Karate throughout the world in the years to come, and give all students an opportunity to train at the highest level of instruction.
In particular, overseas students will benefit by the accommodation available, and by living at Honbu will have their training experience intensified.

We hope you will avail yourselves of the many benefits our new Honbu will be able to provide.

He plans to have the students of the same level (colour belt) training together, but all at the same time, so many training places are necessary. The wants to give the opportunity to high degrees to train together to develop special techniques, so that they can reach an almost scientific level. The purpose is to give everybody the facilities he needs.

Every year Kancho accepts about 14 students who will study on a home-stay basis, the Uchi Deshi. He has to select them very carefully because he gets many applications. He hopes in future not to have to turn down anybody for reasons of lack of accommodation. He hopes to have enough space to provide rooms for the foreign visitors, so that no time and money is wasted. Kancho always repeats that this is no dojo for him, it is a Honbu for every Kyokushin Karateka, meaning Japanese and non-Japanese. The new Honbu should favour the international cooperation. For sure it would facilitate things for foreign Karateka to train in Japan.

To make true these bold dreams. Kancho needs a lot of money, a lot more than he himself can provide for. That is why some Branch Chiefs have given a sum money. I wish Branch Chiefs had ideas to help Kancho to make come true his dream...
